MISSION
Members of Parish Council assist the pastor and priests of the parish in leading the parish through praying for and discerning a vision of how the Holy Spirit is leading the parish. Members will help identify and study the pastoral needs of the parish and how the Lord is leading the parish to meet those needs.
Members will help communicate the vision and direction to the various organizations and parishioners. Members will also be liaisons between parish committees and the Council.
Description of the Parish Council Members
All registered men and women of St. Colman Parish, actively involved in the life of the Parish Community, are eligible for membership in the Council.
Parish Council shall consist of six parishioners and the office manager of the parish. Terms are for three years. One person serves as Parish Council President, the office manager serves as secretary and the other four (including an elected vice-president) serve as liaisons to the various organizations of the parish.
All parishioners will be free to nominate themselves or another. This will take place four weeks before Pentecost. Nominations will be reviewed by pastor and the office manager will call to confirm that the nominee would be willing to serve if chosen.
The names will be placed "in a hat" and at one of the Masses on Pentecost, after a time of prayer, names will be drawn randomly from "the hat," these will be the new members. Two alternate names will also be picked who would take the place of any Council member who might leave during the year. Any parish council member who is unable to fulfill their duties of attendance at meetings and helping with projects would then be replaced by an alternate.
Nominations and selection of officers: President and Vice President, shall take place at the first Parish Council meeting each year, when new members are seated. Parish staff members are not eligible to serve as President or Vice-President.
The President and Vice-President will each serve a one-year term commencing at the first meeting of the Parish Council.
Council Meetings:
Council shall meet quarterly during the months of August, November, March and June at 6: 15 p.m., with the date being set at the previous meeting. The President shall preside at each meeting. In the absence of the President, the Vice President shall preside. The President in coordination with the Pastor shall develop an agenda for each Council meeting. Any parishioner shall be welcome to attend any Council meeting as a guest. If a parishioner wishes to address an issue before the Council, this guest member should contact the Parish Council President. At the discretion of the President and Pastor, they will normally speak at the beginning of Council.
Minutes of the meeting will be sent out in the two weeks following council to all members and be modified and/or approved. Once minutes have been approved they will be made available to the parishioners.
